Maija – Learn Finnish is an app by MotoDoc Oy (Finland). This page explains how to delete your Maija account and data, what is deleted, and what is kept and for how long.
Delete your account in the app
- Open Maija and tap Profile.
- Scroll to Your data and tap Delete my account.
- Tap Delete to confirm.
Your account is deleted straight away, and the app starts fresh on your phone. This works whether you saved your account with email, Apple or Google, or used Maija without saving it.
Ask us to delete it instead
You don't need the app or to reinstall it. Email maija.language@gmail.com with the subject "Delete my Maija account", from the email address you signed in with (or the email of the Apple or Google account you used). If we can't match the address to an account, we'll reply and ask how you signed in. We delete the account and confirm by email within 30 days, usually within a few days.
If you never saved your account, we have no email or name for you: delete it in the app, or simply uninstall Maija, which removes everything stored on your phone.
Subscriptions are cancelled separately
Deleting your account doesn't cancel a subscription, because Apple and Google handle the billing. Cancel it first so you aren't charged again:
- iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Maija → Cancel Subscription.
- Android: Google Play → your profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Maija → Cancel.
What is deleted
- Your sign-in: email address and the link to your Apple or Google account.
- Your learning progress, level, settings and streak.
- Your conversations with Maija (the copy saved in your account and on this phone).
- Your daily usage counts (speaking minutes and AI requests).
- Any reports you sent about Maija's replies.
- Your customer record at RevenueCat, the service that tells Maija which plan you bought.
Maija doesn't store recordings of your voice. During a class your speech is sent to our AI provider to be understood and answered, and isn't saved by Maija.
What is kept, and for how long
- AI provider (OpenAI): may keep the speech and text of your classes for up to 30 days to detect abuse, then deletes them. They aren't used to train AI models.
- Technical logs at our server provider (Supabase): your account id, IP address and the time of requests, kept for up to 7 days for security and to fix errors.
- Purchases: Apple and Google sell the subscriptions and keep your purchase records under their own policies; we can't delete those. The sales reports we receive from them (order number, country and price, no name or email) are kept for 6 years, as Finnish accounting law requires.
- Your deletion email, if you send one: kept for 12 months as a record that we handled your request, then deleted.
Delete only some of your data
You can keep your account and delete parts of your data in Profile → Your data:
- Reset my progress deletes your level, lessons, streak and points.
- Delete my conversations (in the latest version of the app) deletes all your conversations with Maija.
Both apply on your phone and in your saved account. For anything else, such as your email address only or your usage counts, email maija.language@gmail.com and say what you'd like deleted.
